History

The nautical restaurant Sarkka is located on the corner of Letkunpuisto, in the heart of Oulu. Sarkka’s history dates back to 1941, when a folk restaurant fitting the spirit of the time was established on the ground floor of the newly completed Hotel Tervahov. Sarkka got its name as a result of a naming contest in 1942, after the word meaning drinking goblet or pint. Since then, Sarkka has served in the same place continuously, keeping its surface in the turmoil of different time periods, being the oldest continuously operating restaurant in Oulu.
